Number of letters and parcels sent

These statistics present an estimate of the development of the relative numbers of letters and parcels sent. The data is collected from the largest postal operators once a year. The statistics are produced by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom.

Definitions

A letter means an addressed item weighing no more than two kilograms that contains a message on a physical medium as referred to in the Postal Act. In the Postal Act, letters are called ‘items of correspondence’.
Unlike for letters, there is no unambiguous definition for parcels. The figures presented by Traficom are an estimate based on data collected from major postal operators once a year.
