These statistics detail the numbers of currently valid medical certificates issued to airline transport pilots, commercial pilots, private pilots, recreational pilots, air traffic controllers, flight information service officers and cabin crew. The data are updated once a year. The information is produced by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom.

Traficom is responsible for the operation of aeromedical authorities in cooperation with the aeromedical examiners and aeromedical centres it has recognised. Traficom plays a part in ensuring that persons applying for a position in the aviation industry as well as those already working in the field fulfil the medical fitness requirements for the position and are able to operate safely in their work.

DESCRIPTION

Traficom manages official aeromedical activities in cooperation with authorised aviation medical examiners and aeromedical centres. Traficom ensures, in its part, that a person seeking to operate or already operating in the aviation sector is healthy and competent enough to operate safely. Traficom also oversees that the functional capacity and health requirements set for aviation professionals are observed.

Medical certificates include the certificates of airline transport pilots and commercial pilots (ATPL, CPL, MPL; class 1), private pilots (PPL, BPL, SPL; class 2), recreational pilots [LAPL (A, H, S, B), UPL, APL; class LAPL], air traffic controllers and flight information service officers (ATCO, FISO; class 3) and cabin crew (class Cabin Crew).
