Statistics on the first-time registrations of watercraft

The statistics on the first-time registrations of watercraft include the numbers of watercraft registered for the first time in Traficom’s Transport Register each month. The data are updated once a month. The information is produced by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom.

Watercraft tend to be registered for the first time in spring and summer. The majority of watercraft registered for the first time are motorboats and jet skis.

In the statistics database, users can search for watercraft registered for the first time from 2015 onwards.

DESCRIPTIONThe statistics on the first-time registrations of watercraft are based on Traficom’s Transport Register, which contains information on all watercraft subject to registration obligation in continental Finland. First-time registrations are retrieved from the register on a monthly basis. The Finnish Defence Forces’ watercraft are not included in the statistics on first-time registration of watercraft stock.
DATA CONTENTFirst-time registrations of new watercraft are retrieved monthly. Data on watercraft types (motorboats, sailboats, etc.) by make, model and length, for example. Other data: watercraft colour, draught and engine power, and various technical specifications. Descriptive information on watercraft owners and holders.

The statistics on the first-time registrations of watercraft are also updated retrospectively at the turn of the year 
to ensure that any corrected data is included in the statistics.

FURTHER INFORMATION

The Watercraft Register was transferred from the local register offices to the Finnish Transport Safety Agency Trafi in August 2014. The statistical period for the statistics of 2014 was between 1 August 2014 and 31 December 2014.

On 1 July 2017, the registers maintained by Trafi were combined into one register, known as the Transport Register.
